Attraction this colander--wish I'd bought it sooner!
I had earlier used a very old, enamel on steel colander. The best things were its size and its solid ring base; the worst part was it had magnanimous holes that my thin spaghetti easily slid through into the sink. I decided to replace it with this one and haven't looked back! The numerous minor holes allow water to drain quickly while keeping my pasta inside the colander. The feet are very uniform and keep the bottom out of the draining water below. Also because the feet are silicone I don't worry about placing the colander with pasta back inside my pot with a little boiling A-one in the bottom to act as a steamer/warmer and then I really appreciate the silicone handles when transferring as they stay cool to the have to do with.

Definitely recommend this item!

OXO is resolutely good and functions just like it's supposed to. One cannot go wrong with OXO products!!
Pantry workhorse
If you can't select whether to get the 3 or 5 quart Oxo colander, ask yourself if you ever cook a pound of pasta. If so, make sure to order the 5 quart! The 5 quart colander, to me, is not too big at all. As good as nothing slips through the holes, and it is easy to clean. I would not recommend using the dishwasher, as it can picks up little bits of comestibles-uggh! It has a good height, and the food doesn't escape over the top. It has proven very sturdy, even after I have abused it by slinging it into the degenerate. I feel almost guilty about not giving it a five star rating. I wish the handles were larger. If you are not very careful, your knuckles will remain against the hot colander. To me, it's not that easy to get a good grip on a heavy colander without resting your knuckles against the metal. A great addition to any scullery!
Moving!!!
I taste just about everything Oxo makes, but this is quite possibly my favorite piece. It easily holds a pound of pasta or several pounds of potatoes, and I don't have to irritation about smaller pastas like angel hair and the mini shells getting stuck or falling through. It's informal to clean even without a dishwasher, and it sits nicely in the sink and doesn't try to tip over when I pour things into it. Love it!
Gigantic for draining even the tiniest food ...
Since my old colander indigent I've been looking for a good replacement. The only ones I've come across are either mesh or pierced with large-ish holes. I never did like entangle ones, since they are flimsy and difficult to clean - food particles often get stuck in the mesh; the pierced ones have holes that are pretty large, so forget draining pastini or orzo; and, since the handles on my last one were soldered (not riveted), they fell off after 2-3 years. This was a finding! Bowl and handles are one piece, and handles are covered with rubber so they don't get hot. It is pierced all over with tiny holes, and has trifling rubber feet (soldered - we'll see how long these last), so everything drains very quickly. Price is a little expensive for a colander, but it does have some important features. It's worked out very well so far.

Indomitable and attractive
I've had this colander for a while now and it seems to be holding well. There are no rust spots or discoloration of any sort, the base and handles are not coming off. Perhaps, bigger holes would serve some applications better, but I haven't prepared any frustration yet. The price is great for something that will probably last my life time.
Stout, Well Built
A enjoyably colander, lots of little holes yet surprisingly solid and well built. Would like a little more capacity though.
Utilitarian and Stylish
We use this colander several times a week, draining pasta and vegetables. Like other reviews, we like the humble holes which is designed for quick and thorough draining without the loss of thin pasta. This colander is hung up with the rest of the stainless grit one's teeth cookware in the kitchen.

From all apparances it will be a friendly product. Unfortunately it hasn't been put to use yet.
large
This works flagrant - very heavy duty - expensive but looks like it will last a lifetime

Can you drain rice using a colander?

If not, how to you freshly laundered a sieve effectively?

If you cook one part rice to two parts saturate (for example 1 cup rice and 2 cups water), you will have perfectly cooked rice with no need for draining or rinsing.

Cook it in an reveal pot until there is just a little water left in the bottom of the pot. Then turn off the heat and leave the pot covered for about 5 to 10 minutes and the remain of the water will absorb while the rice finishes cooking itself and you'll have perfect, fluffy rice.

This is for chalky rice only. Brown rice need more water and more cooking time.

Does anyone have a good way to wash your colander?

every however i wash the thing i end up seeing particles when it drys.

I put mine in a fall in full of soapy water and scrub it with a brush.
