Getting Your Food Storage

Three unstrained steps to getting your food storage.

Food Storage?

I need to know what food storage food has the best taste and the longest shelf life?
When in the service we had C rations and later MRE's. I have heard about force out dried food and dehiderated food but do know much about it.
Any information will be greatly appreciated and sources to buy it from also.

Several years back I ran across cases and cases of one gallon (?) cans of dehydrated foods at a yard on offer. I bought them dirt cheap. They were expired that or the next year but I ate them off and on for another four years. They were nitrogen packed and just peachy.
Dried peanut butter was fine for cooking
peas and carrots were a little on the sweet side, but okay
the tomato paste authorization was nasty, pured those cans out in the garden :)
scrambled egg powder was great, especially used as an extender with most recent eggs
chocolate pudding sucked
threw away or gave away the powdered tap.. off color off taste even when mixed with fresh
Remember - these were all expired - the food hoarders had replaced their stock and more or less gave the piffle to me at a yard sale.
I just remembered the brand name - rainyday foods - walton feed carries them, see component below.

Flour, salt, coffee, rice, beans, hardtack, side of bacon, and dried greens... I create that's what the settlers insisted on... maybe not the dried greens, but what the hey ? :p

edit: looking at that call for I remeber my two favorites; there were cans of dehydrated potatoes and big cans of dried cheese that made exceelent augratin potatoes.

expurgate:2 http://waltonfeed.com/cart/all.html#2 look for the sample pack at this link... it's about $12 and then youd comprehend if it's palatable food :p
K075-Sample Pack-15 items 32 oz #10 can $12.60 charming corn, peas, vegetable stew, potato dices, tomato powder, apple slices, strawberry flakes, bananas, fruit mix, whole egg talc run away, cheese, margarine powder, instant milk, peach drink and taco core substitute

I got a heck of a deal, I paid less than $1 a can at the yard sale. The chesse is over $50 now.

added: Motionless dried foods are superior in flavor to dehydrated, btw, but much more expensive.

I don't comprehend much about it either nor have I tried it. I have seen them before at places that sell outdoor equipment. army/navy stores and sporting goods stores rat on them with the camping equipment.

What's the most important lesson you have learned from living on your food storage?

This is for those of you who have put away food storage and then in fact chosen or had to live on it for a period of time exclusive of store bought food. If you were advising someone who's putting in food storage, what would be your view?

I've always had a WELL stocked pantry and 2 freezers. Mark aggressive sure that any meats are well wrapped, in freezer zip-loc baggies, with the date and name on the front ......As soon as you get close to using up something in your pantry, refill it at the next time:) Store pastas, beans, rice in tupperware or glass mason jars; it keeps them modern and looks pretty in the pantry......

What is the most common food-storage molecule used by algae?

Compete with the types of food-storage molecules found in the seven types of algae.

Algae are most outstanding in bodies of water, but are also common in terrestrial environments. However, terrestrial algae are usually rather inconspicuous and far more hackneyed in moist, tropical regions than dry ones, because algae lack vascular tissues and other adaptations to physical on land. Algae are also found in other situations, such as on snow and on exposed rocks in symbiosis with a fungus as lichen.

The heterogeneous sorts of algae play significant roles in aquatic ecology. Microscopic forms that continue suspended in the water column — called phytoplankton — provide the food base for most nautical food chains. In very high densities (so-called algal blooms) these algae may discolor the water and outcompete, envenom, or asphyxiate other life forms. Seaweeds grow mostly in shallow marine waters, however some have been recorded to a extensively of 300 m.Some are used as human food or harvested for useful substances such as agar, carrageenan, or fertilizer.
