Hi,
I'm prevalent out of country for 2 weeks. I have checked the flight site to see what I can carry and what not to carry. But cannot find anything about a chef knife. I have purchased a big chef knife for my relative (who's a chef) as a donation. Can I put that in my checked-in baggage. The flight site mentions that all such stuff cannot be taken on board. But can it be checked?. Do I insufficiency to inform the authorities during check-in that I have a knife in my checked-in bag. I tried calling my airlines but they put me on hold forever and absolutely I hung up.
Please advise if anybody knows about it.
Thanks.
Yes and no.
As far as domestically does, the fulfil is yes as long as you put it in you checked luggage.
see : http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1188.shtm
When traveling publicly however, the answer depends on the country you are arriving in. Some countries may not see the need for a tourist to have a chef's knife with them. Don't disregard that the TSA only rules the domestic air so while their site says it's OK, the country you are going to may have different regulations...
The easiest way to be reliable your knife doesn't get confiscated is to ship it separately to your destination.
as lengthy as you check it! never try that in a carry on. but they will allow it.
My father in law brings things like that from over seas all the time
i'm starting culinary primary and am looking for a bag to put my tools in. i have a roll for my knives already. the bag will have to be able to hold measuring cups and spoons, biscuit cutters, kitchenette scale, whisks, spoon, spatula, 2 rolled up silpats, and a few pastry tools. any suggestions as to a tag, size, or style? thanks!
Samson, all the chefs I ever worked with use commercial avenue boxes from hardware stores, like Lowes or Home Depot.
The brand, size and smartness all vary, based on personal taste and the amount of equipment they wish to carry. They range from small to especially large, from black, to black and yellow, to blue, to red.
Invest in one that you find visually appealing, and will fit your equipment with enough cell to grow. You can always buy a larger one down the road. Make sure the one you buy can be locked with a separate pad lock in the middle - you don't requisite to loose anything.
Update: My culinary colleagues told me that they were given tool boxes as part of their tuition improve. At $40,000, it probably should be. Check with admissions, you may not need to buy one unless you want a different style.
Dependable luck!

These women may not have an oven, refrigerator, stove, knife, or even the aptitude to boil water, but they do have plenty of time on their hands. Decades, in fact. And that, combined with a few (admittedly observed only in) ingredients and a desire to cook
