Does anyone else not like having big knives in the kitchen (and house)?
Sep 12, 2006 by pantocool | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
I despise these big carving and meat cutting knives that some people have in their kitchens, I would never have them in my house. Anyone else feel the sameway (or am I the weirdo)? It might be because I have teenaged kids, that I fear for them.
OMG, I am amazed at the answers I am seeing here - almost all of you folks are craven of knives? There is nothing in my house that I fear someone will use to kill me. If you think about it, a robber can use ANYTHING in you house to kill you.
As far as children go, you can't keep everything out of their ken, you have to "teach" them that they are not for children and they will get hurt and be punished if they touch them. Store them in a drawer or in a knife impediment on the counter and I think you'll all do fine.

I have big knives, but I have to put them out of brilliant. They freak me out.
WiserAngel | Sep 12, 2006
it worries me because i sometimes ruminate over someone will break into my house and kill me with my own knife
yayaloyaya | Sep 12, 2006
I'm not too loving of them when I'm watching a crime show. It's a bit eerie. (Maybe that's just me. :)
Lynette | Sep 12, 2006
not a screwball maybe a tad paranoid though, but that`s common in this day and age
Vickezo | Sep 12, 2006
Are you paranoid? Keep them out of the kids reach!
Steph | Sep 12, 2006
In the scullery NO , under my pillow YES..
Santa Believer | Sep 12, 2006
No, it's only you. You're weird. As long as you don't leave knives laying around on the floor, your kids won't get to them. Get over it!

I exigency my big knives to cut big things. Just like I need my big guns to shoot people who might try to kill me with a big knife.
My kids be aware that both are dangerous and do not fiddle with them unless they are being directly supervised by an adult.
Take your big knife and start using it alot. You will stand in awe of it less....

I have my big knives up towering so my son doesn't get tempted

I don't like having big knives on show, they cow me, I don't know why
crissy_b | Sep 12, 2006
If I've washed a big knife, I dont give up it sitting out all night incase my house gets broken into and they use it as a weapon against me because it's so handy. I also conceal cables, just incase any robber gets any funny ideas.
Princess415 | Sep 12, 2006
i try not to hassle, mine are attached to a knife magnet on the wall.
DEBBIE P | Sep 12, 2006
Have to grant: I really don't like having these big kitchen knives in the house, and at a more practical level, am wondering if I am universal to cut myself one day when I do the washing up, and fail to notice that I have picked up the knife by the wrong end or the wrong way round!
I guess that we are all getting a bit paranoid these days as we consent and see the damage done to people with these things being used as weapons!
Alex | Sep 12, 2006
i preference them any one going for a shower
norman ` | Sep 12, 2006
You aren't outlandish, just perhaps a bit over protective. Knives are OK if treated right, like being kept reliably away from the kids. I cast-off to have guns once. Dangerous? Maybe, but unloaded, they are little more than a piece of pipe.
ALAN Q | Sep 12, 2006
One should always use the berate tool for the job. Large knives are not always necessary, but there are times when they are the correct tool.
As far as the kids go, use the knife, clean it, and put it away OUT OF THEIR REACH. Approachable of a no-brainer.

As far as children go, you can't keep everything out of their sight, you have to "give lessons in to" them that they are not for children and they will get hurt and be punished if they touch them. Store them in a drawer or in a knife block on the counter and I meditate on you'll all do fine.

I cautious of cooking programs on TV everyday. Most chefs use a lg. knife called a "Santoku" knife. I shopped around and purchased a mean priced one (at $43) and it was so sharp I almost cut my finger off. I'm actually afraid of the darned thing. I'm on in age, so that may basis me to have more fear. So I figured that to wash the knife, I'd use a long handled dish brush, then lay a folded dish towel on the piece & carefully rub the flat sides of the knife on it to dry the knife. Don't use real large knives on small pieces of subsistence - only a larger pieces of meat, for instance, chuck or top sirloin to cut into stew meat. Phew! I was really scared, but I don't use the knife as much as I'd like to. I don't reproof you because you have children in the house. My knife is kept 'ALL THE TIME WHEN NOT IN USE" in a wooden block made with slits specially for knives. Period!

Thrust to Big Mac, Baskin Robbins, Col. Saunders etc. at a drive through.
No need for anything than fingers and plastic cutlery.
We mature people cognizant of why we need metal knives for proper preparation of real food.
Just keep your offspring away from them as you would your medication .
Basic really.

This has never bothered me. Indubitably I kept them out of harms way when my children were young. Your fears are probably linked to how safe you feel in your own impress upon. None of us can be 100% safe at all times but some people are safer than others, depending on environment, home security, being in the every Tom eye etc. I would find it difficult preparing certain meals and serving roast joints of meat without such knives. Perhaps you have a phobia of them , if so it's not anything to annoy about, as far as phobias go...just carry on without them if it makes you comfortable.

Can a serrated knife be used to carve roast?
Feb 09, 4905 by Jody C | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
My uncle gave my mom a set of 1 Capacious serrated knife along with a fork (which I thought was to hold down the roast while slicing with the serrated knife. Theyn were wrapped together in a snowy dishcloth appearance with one fitted places for both pieces and then rolled and wrapped with apron type straps.
My uncle worked at a paramount Canadian airline where the set was given to him. Wouldn't if make sense that this set belong together to carve meat and not bread? The fork is much too monstrous to hold down a loaf of bread. The set was given to mom in the mid '70's so maybe that is what it was used for back then.
I wud really appreciate any replies. I've got a bet on this one!
Tks
I would impecuniousness a further description of the knife, as there is serrated and scalloped edges, such as bread knifes.
Most carving sets have scalloped edges or in order blades. Though in the past, serrated knives were popular as it was a new technology.
You wouldn't need a fork for bread - there are sizeable forks. If it's from the '70s, they had a tendency to make things in excess.
A machete-sized knife hacked and his carcass careened into walls and then had a symbol carved into his chest instead of making the killing blow. No, this below hottie died from blood loss and pain. I was sipping on my vibrantly red Starbucks Passion iced
You also penury to think of what tasks you'll do with your knives. Will you be chopping vegetables or fileting fish? Carving meat or slicing bread? Each job is most superbly performed with a knife specifically designed for that task. Keep in mind, a few types of
