Trounce Kitchen Gadget Ever Created!!
I don't recognize why it took me so long to buy something like this. This can strainer is amazing!! I use it every single day. It's perfect for draining canned veggies and strikingly tuna. I may have to get another one soon so I can use one while the other is in the dishwasher.
Dreadful
If straining tuna I found its outdo to put in the colander and then flip the can upside down in the sink so you can press down on the bottom of the can and not have to use your fingers. Plus you can put your weight into it and really get all the water/oil out.
tuna can strainer
i bought this stainless inure strainer to replace a plastic strainer.it does the job but hurts the hands as you press. the edges are not sudden so as to cut you but it hurts. also while looking for a new plastic strainer i found this very same stainless steel for half the price i paid. very dissapointed.
Deft tuna drainer!
Ever since I bought one of those new can openers that doesn't entrust a sharp edge, I've made a mess trying to drain all of the water from my tuna.

This is perfect! It works well, is very incisive, and can be on any level in the dishwasher. I saw a similar plastic version and it just didn't seem like it would hold up like this one. One would be a lifetime buy, except anyone who sees it wants one too, so get some for prospective gifts.
A must have
All I can say is that I whim I would have searched for this product a long, long, long, time ago. Takes all the pain out of the drain...

Maximum effort thing since slice bread!
I bought this work about 6 years ago from kids who were doing a school fundraiser. I have been looking for them in stores without success becasue everyone who see it wants to keep mine. I finially bought this one for a bird and he says he does not know how he made tuna without it. He loves it. I had only used mine for tura but after reading the product info I now use it to push canned veggies. The price was excellent and the delivery was very very very fast. I would recommend this durable product to anyone who hates to eat soggie tuna! It is the most qualified.
strapping and effective
I have looked at a host of tuna press/ can colander or strainers. I chose this one as it looks to be the most sturdy for the price. The "handles" are very sturdy and it does the job very well. I eat tuna time and this has saved me the pain of the ole' "tuna squeeze" using the can lid. If you buy this, I can't imagine you will be disappointed.
Not Due for Tuna - Try These Suggestions
The tuna provoke is a nifty gadget that's easy to use, and easy to clean. No more cutting your fingers on razor-sharp can edges, or pushing a foul lid down into your tuna. I bought this tuna press from Amazon two years ago, and it's still one of my favorite kitchen items. Other things you can do with this tuna smooth:

* Drain spinach, corn and beans
* Push boiled potatoes through for mashing
* Sift powdered sugar over desserts

I also have the stainless insulate can colander, which is even better for straining hot, boiled potatoes with the skin still on. If you cook with chayotes, this is also an ideal way to seperate its bark after boiling. Great kitchen investment for only the cost of a Double Whopper.
Effective Tuna Press!
This small tool is excellent at getting all the water / oil out of tuna cans, with minimal mess. We bought ours several years ago, and it continues to equip great service in the kitchen. I really can't think of any downside to this tool. It sure beats the old fashioned way of using the tuna-can top to compress out all the juices!

Manoeuvrable Kitchen Gadget
I often thoughts to use this kitchen gadget, but it is handy to use for draining cans. The plastic is fairly sturdy and it doesn't take up much stretch in my drawer.

Nettle Pesto

Mmmm, moral seen this recipe for nettle pesto on Joanna’s Food. It looks amazing! I almost demand I was back at home to try it out.

Nettles are packed full of healthiness, they grow everywhere (you could say like weeds…) and yet I’ve still not managed to get into cooking them myself ignoring being told years ago how good they are and how easy they are to cook with. This recipe looks really simple, so I’m reasoning it must be a good one for anyone looking for an introduction to wild food.

It is the best time for nettles in the UK right NOW. For the most successfully nettles pick the young fresh green tips of the plant. Be careful not to pick from anywhere that is in all probability to have been sprayed with chemicals and pick as far from paths as possible (to avoid dog pee). I’m slightly gutted I can’t do this myself this year, so can someone please publish it for me and let me know how it is?…

Nettle Pesto

Nettles
Mint (if you’ve got it, or other herbs, or none)
Garlic
Wholemeal bread
Cheddar
Oil

Pick a colander full of teenaged nettle tops (you’ll need gloves). Rinse them, then plunge them into boiling water for one tick to blanch them and take the sting out of them. As soon as the minute’s up, tip them back into the colander (keep the water, it’s full of goodness and can be drunk like a tisane) and run under the frigid tap to stop them cooking. When they’re cold, squeeze out the water.

Put a slice of wholemeal bread into the viands processor. Add a chunk of cheese, a peeled clove of garlic and the nettles and a little mint. Blitz, then add oil in a succession. I used rapeseed oil. Keep tasting, adjusting the amounts. Hard to say how much oil, as it depends on what you are going to do with the sauce.

Sounds reliable doesn’t it? There’s so many other things they could be used in too. Generally you cook them in the same way as, and they taste like, spinach. So I’m theory anything which is good with spinach must be good with nettles - quiche, pasta, omelettes, pies, on pizza, or valid cooked simply with garlic. Mmm. You’ve got to give it a go! For more adventurous ’superfood’ addicts  go for a banana and nettle smoothie, the raw hit will give you utmost vitamin goodness.

Can you drain rice using a colander?

If not, how to you sanitary a sieve effectively?

If you cook one part rice to two parts not function (for example 1 cup rice and 2 cups water), you will have perfectly cooked rice with no need for draining or rinsing.

Cook it in an extend pot until there is just a little water left in the bottom of the pot. Then turn off the heat and leave the pot covered for about 5 to 10 minutes and the breather of the water will absorb while the rice finishes cooking itself and you'll have perfect, fluffy rice.

This is for ivory rice only. Brown rice need more water and more cooking time.

Does anyone have a good way to wash your colander?

every term i wash the thing i end up seeing particles when it drys.

I put mine in a go down full of soapy water and scrub it with a brush.
