Huh?
I haven't the faintest dream what people are complaining/talking about. This is like any waiter's corkscrew I've used. This corkscrew is completely identical to the 2 other corkscrews that I've used for years (except the Oneida one is in well done stainless steel and the 2 others are brushed metal).

The knife on it is a little dull, but it can be sharpened.

It seems that people seem to either unqualifiedly love it or really hate it. Well, I personally love it and only recommend it only if you're pretty adept at using a waiter's corkscrew. Otherwise you may penury to pass on it.

Inadequate to remove a bottlecap!
Neverminding the corkscrew component, the manfulness opener's lower teeth aren't long enough to maintain a solid grip on the edge of a bottlecap. I could unprotected a bottle faster with my housekey or a flathead screwdriver!
implausible
I have this corkscrew and it's a dab flimsy. The rivets allow the worm to wiggle from side to side and it just doesn't have good fit and finish and isn't pleasant in the hand. If I were to buy another one I'd probably go with a model that has a nicer handle and a "two-step" feature to make it easier to tug the cork.
warmth it.
does what it's putative to do. I've had it for a few years now. Still works just fine. No slippage, still sharp. I like it.
Uncomplicated is Sometimes Best
I pleasure this corkscrew so much I just ordered a replacement because my last one disappeared...probably taken by the bartender I hired for my holiday soir ;).

Seriously, I have had a metrokane rabbit, numerous knock-offs, the wing design and other waiter styles and this one is completely the best. The rabbits broke after one or two stubborn corks and the others would shred older corks or have pieces sink off, etc.

The beauty of this one is the simplicity of its design. The worm is just the right length so you don't go too far into the cork and end up with little bits of it in your wine. The vacant worm design (as opposed to the solid shaft design) also cleanly removes the entire cork (which is significant in older wines) without breakage in one shot.

This corkscrew does require a little more effort to use when compared to a rabbit but its bloody sturdy and very nice looking. Most importantly, it has worked for me hundreds of times, if not a thousand... and it worked everytime, marvellously.

I am a winemaker and serious collector so I've used a lot of different corkscrews. They all have their pluses and minuses, but funny how I always come back to this one. Recall the $50, $100, or even $200 models and go with this one. Besides...the extra $100 you save could be spent on a nice Mondavi Hold over instead :)

This is an surprising wine key!
I'm a waiter, and I've worn dozens of wine keys over the years, and this is by far the best. It's easy to use, and operates very smoothly. It is a little large, but its bulky grip adds a high degree of comfort to its use. I love it. Worth every penny.
Not expert but pleased with purchase
Received artefact by date stated but cork screw seemed to be used. Description says new but maybe it was a fluke. Fortuitous overall with purchase. Thank you
First waiter's corkscrew that I could use conclusively!
I don't have a lot of proffer or arm strength, and when I've had to use a waiter's corkscrew, I'd typically hand it to my husband. This is the first waiter's corkscrew that I've been able to use effectively. The movement is smooth and does not take instinctive force.

I didn't think that I would like any waiter's corkscrew as well as I liked my Screwpull table model corkscrew, which had unfortunately cracked after several years of use. After reading all the reviews, I risked getting this one because I thought it would be more durable and better for slipping into a bag when traveling. I fancy it. Works just as well as my old table model, and has some more flexibility for unusually shaped bottles, etc. It is a bit bulkier than many waiter's corkscrews, but I'm not a bartender/server and won't be carrying it in my cluster all day.

One note: someone else said that this doesn't have a great bottle opener. I've only used it once and it was fine, but not great. If you extraordinarily care about the kind of bottle opener your corkscrew has, maybe this isn't for you. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.
Enormous Waiter's Corkscrew
This is the master waiter's corkscrew I've used in years. The screw goes in well, the leverage is perfect, and it's comfortable to use. I've used it with both natural and imitation corks, and it works well with either.
This is such a anticyclone quality tool, I love it.
We have opened several bottles of wine already, and we devotion it. It is made of sturdy materials, and works excellent.

Case Study | Stocking the Bar New York Times (blog)

, You’ll on the whole find dented and flame-charred steel pans and aluminum sizzle platters being banged around the stove. Most bartenders and cocktail geeks I be aware are, like me, collectors of the trade. We all have Japanese spoons and heavy French hotel shakers and filigreed unimaginative vintage silver-plated strainers we’ve bid ferociously for on eBay. But what do we use in our work every night? Cheap, stainless-knife Boston shakers, heavy pint mixing glasses, strainers and spoons available in majority from restaurant wholesalers and supply Web sites. Why? Because in the trenches, you don’t care about matte finishes and sleek lines; you use what works think twice.

Bear with me if this post seems a bit elementary, but so many customers have asked me over the years what they should buy to make drinks at home that I brown study a brief rundown on some very basic tools every bartender, home and pro, should be using might be worthwhile. Some of these things may be abstruse at first, but after using them a couple of times you will see the obvious superiority of them over the poorly functioning, overdesigned stuff in most “poorhouse bar kits” for sale. All the items can be had from a combination of BarProducts.com , which has the best prices and the worst Web spot in all the land, and Amazon.com .

how to use waiter's corkscrew?

Misconstruction the corkscrew into the cork
pull the handles down on the sides

Spiral the corkscrew into the cork
pull the handles down on the sides

Expand the worm (corkscrew part) completely and partly open the lever parallel to the worm. Insert the worm into the cork and inaugurate to turn. As the screw drives into the cork, the notch in the lever should rest on the lip of the bottle. Keep turning until the worm is unambiguously in the cork. Make sure the lever is between you and the bottle, and pull back towards you gently. Once you get the hang of it, you'll never use another gingerbread device again!

Its theurgical.
