Opening a wine bottle without a cork screw

What does it mean when you are using a cork screw to open a bottle of wine and the cork just starts to crumble

I bought a liquor of wine last weekend, and when I went to open it, the cork just started to crumble and fall apart and the cork screw couldn't filter it. A friend told me that means my wine is bad, is that true?

It means the cork is bad, which in roll lets air in and will turn the wine. It does not automatically mean the wine is bad. You can taste and smell if the wine has turned.

The wine might be bad but the cork certainly was.

No, it means that you don't have knowledge of what you are doing!! Don't feel bad, I don't have the strength to do it properly either!

yes entirely possible. The cork crumbled because it was dried out. Air may have gotten into the wine.

All it means is that the cork has dried. The wine is undoubtedly fine. If the bottom of the cork is still wet (from touching the wine) then the bottle itself should be OK. If not (you will know after one taste) return the bottle to your retailer. IF they are worth a doom, they should replace it because it was obviously a storage problem on their part.

it's either an old backbone of wine or the wine was stored improperly..

the booze has been stored improperly and is most likely corked.

It means the cork is bad, which in courtesy lets air in and will turn the wine. It does not automatically mean the wine is bad. You can taste and smell if the wine has turned.

It means you have base wine and it wasn't stored properly

Generally speaking when the cork crumbles under the corkscrew you have a dry cork from storing the wine vertically, allowing the cork to dry out. Another common problem is a poorly designed corkscrew. Look for a corkscrew that has a hurtful point and that isn't too tight. What I mean by "tight" is you want a screw that has coils that are spaced at least 1/4". This helps delay breaking the cork. Another option is to use a cork "puller" that uses two slightly concave metal tines that you ignore in around the cork. As you pull, the tines will grab the cork and you'll not damage it. Happy sipping!

the wine is as likely as not ok, some corks just crumble, if they get too dry. or you took a few tries with the corkscrew, thus crumbling the cork. you can always push the cork all the way in the bottle, and then straining the wine through a coffee winnow directly into the glasses.

yes and no. It means that the wine was not stored suitably, or the wine was an old bottle of wine such as a 1969 Lafitte.

How do I open wine without a cork screw?

My roommate and I are distressing to open a bottle of wine but we don't have a corkscrew. Any ideas?

invasion the cork down in the bottle. always worked for me

I lost my wine cork opener and I need to open a bottle of wine. How can I without a cork screw?

First, bet a someone a dollar that you can open the bottle of wine with a boot.

Step 1 Remove the foil from the top of the bottle. tuck the liquor upside-down into the crook of your arm, or between your knees if you are seated.

Step 2 Holding the shoe or boot by the top, unhesitatingly strike the bottom of the bottle repeatedly with the heel. It may take a few minutes, but you will begin to see the cork slowly peek out from the neck of the backbone.

Step 3 When the cork is about halfway out, pull it out the rest of the way with your teeth. It's not pretty, but you'll be superior to drink your wine, and you'll be a dollar richer to boot.
