Disagreeable Mouse Production (shurkin.com) - Cast iron frying pan advertisement

I brought a touch iron frying pan that was apparently ready to go. No need to bake it. But after I used it I was told to clean it with salt, then dry, then put oil and salt together in the pan and bake it in the oven at 500 degrees but it smoked up my sporting house and there is this coating in the pan now that is kind of peeling off. Looks like the oil was almost baked on but not really.
not sure how I am supposed to lave it...

The only conflict I have with the way Lodge recommends for cleaning and the way I was taught (I'm still using my grandmother's cast iron skillet, to all intents about 110 years old now) was that instead of towel drying a washed skillet, you put it back on the stove for a few minutes to dry, then wiped the exclusive with a little oil or shortening.
My boyfriend has some type iron frying pans that have been sitting around for a long time! They have rust on them and I want to know a proper way to clean them. They get that unusual smell to them when just cleaned with dish soap and water and the rusty stuff won't come off!
I fall short of to get them in working condition so I can have some GOOD food cooked in them!
Nothing beats some Fried Chicken cooked in a Actors Iron Skillet!
If there is a lot of cooked-on grease, you can put the skillets upside down on a shelf in your self-cleaning oven the next occasion you clean it. The skillets will come out grease-free but rusted. Take out the steel wool & scrub it all off. Deliver well in hot soapy water & rinse. Now (and anytime you boil liquids in that skillet ie.make gravy for that chicken) you have to re-occasion the skillet by adding a small film of fat/oil to the pan & heating it on LOW heat for about 15 min. (The first pancake you cook may fast just a bit but you're generally off to cooking some of the best tasting food around.)
I inherited some designate iron pans from my grandmother and I'd like to use them but they need cleaning and possibly seasoning. What do I need to do to get rid of the sludge, rust, and I don't know what other grimey buildup that's on these?
I use overwhelm salt to scrub it & then rinse it in hot water, reheat the pan on a burner & reapply oil with a paper towel. If something seems first cruddy, I'll simmer a bit of water on the stove top to loosen it.

Recipe: Cast-Iron-Skillet Fried Catfish So when I saw the programme for Deep-Fried Catfish in the new Lodge Cast Iron Cookbook, I asked the folks at Lodge if I could have it to pay out with Wild Chef readers. They obliged, bless their hearts. Enjoy. 1. Mount a 17-inch type iron skillet on a |

Fried chicken is truly something to cluck about Course oil into a 10- to 12-inch cast-iron skillet or other heavy straight-sided skillet (not nonstick) to a bottomless pit of 3/4 inch. Prop deep-fry thermometer in oil so bulb is submerged. Heat over medium-extraordinary heat until thermometer registers 350 degrees. |
