Accessible kitchen gadget!
As I do more and more cooking from graze, I appreciate the flavors of spices and herbs like garlic, cilantro, fresh basil, and others. But these types of substances aren't always the easiest to deal with, while their pre-minced/dried/ground counterparts (often costing more) are, but lack the zest and flavor of fresh. The Zyliss garlic press eliminates the hassle with garlic, which tastes famous but leaves your hands stained with its pungent odor for days if you fiddle about too much peeling it and using a slash to mince it.

To be honest, I had been peeling my garlic even with this press, but the reviews that say it works on even unpeeled cloves are great news for me, and I will surely be doing that next. This press really works and it's not like you have to break the bank to get one. Its limit is one garlic clove at a time (Zyliss patently makes a jumbo model that can hold more), but it's not exactly a huge problem because unless you are cooking for an army you on the whole won't use more than 3 or 4 cloves anyway. The rugged metal construction means that unless your garlic has turned to stone, you aren't odds-on to ever break this press, making the investment even better. And don't worry about the headaches of picking garlic from all the little squeeze holes. The press includes a dexterous plastic cleaning tool that pushes neatly into all the holes at once, removing the thin film of garlic pulp that normally falls right out.

If you like to cook savory foods with real flavor, you know the rank of garlic, and why bother with spendy jars of minced garlic packed in water when you can buy bulk cloves, crush them up with this manoeuvrable press, and get real fresh flavor on the cheap? Definitely pick one of these up.
don't have to be a muscle man to use
The view I own is slightly different. It doesn't have any coating on it, which I think is a good thing. I'm not sure if you can still get the uncoated side? I've had this garlic press for years and it has held up well. No need to peel the garlic first and there's very little wasted garlic. It all goes through and comes out very fine and undeviating. I recently decided to upgrade and bought a Trudeau based on America's Test Kitchen array (usually am 100% satisfied with their recommendations). However the Trudeau's handles were huge and it requires a lot of muscle. The worst point about the Trudeau is that there is a lot of garlic wasted that doesn't go through the holes. I'm sticking with my Zyliss.
False item sent, but okay item
I ordered the Susi Deluxe, but was sent the Susi 2 in lieu of. The Susi 2 does not have the cleaning accessory that I really wanted, so I was disappointed. The Susi 2 is okay, an above-average garlic press, but not spectacular.
Delicate
Have habituated to this product for about 1 year. The plastic cleaner pegs bend easily and become useless so the press becomes very hard to bath. Finally, when pressing several cloves at once, the entire bottom of the press broke off in one hunk. Also, the aluminum had badly discolored. Look elsewhere for a garlic press.
On the skids with a large clove
The press penniless when I inserted a large clove. The hinge that held the two handles together broke right off.

Appropriate Press for me
I have to take cognizance of that this was a "whimm" purchase. I have a garlic press that is perfectly functional, but when I saw this one, I had to upgrade. What I love about this press is that it is strong and all in one piece. I don't have to worry about losing parts and that is a must in my qualified in.

The other selling point for me was the size of the garlic holder. It is big enough to put in key limes, if you have to squeeze a bunch, this is a good way to go. I haven't tried it yet, only saw someone do that on TV.

And this doesn't show any signs of breaking, it's very well designed, I don't forsee me breaking off the hilt as I have done with other garlic presses in the past.

This is one gadget that gets a lot of use in my kitchen and I am very pleased with it's quality.
You Can't go break down with a Zyliss
We had the earliest "susi" and used it for years. It just simply worked. It was easy to clean, wasted no garlic, it was perfect. When my daughter got married my the missis graciously gave our susi to her. I bought another brand for us that seemed very well built, but it didn't do a very good job. I tossed it in the trash one day in frustration ... and ordered the "susi 2". It's a bit bigger and can repress garlic without peeling it. It works flawlessly... don't ask me how Zyliss does it, they just do. I read a few reviews that stated it did not assault with a tool to clean the press ... it certainly does ... it's neatly tucked away in the market .... good job Zyliss.
Alarming Garlic Press!
I weakness this garlic press! I had never even heard of Zyliss before, but I took a chance when I saw it for sale at one of those close out/overstock discount stores. I've had 2 or 3 presses over the years some that worked OK and some that barely flat out didn't do a damn thing but crush the garlic. This press works beautifully and produces finely minced garlic with very only slightly waste.

I saw that some people complained about theirs did not come with a cleaning tool. Well..mine came with one. Maybe back in the day they didn't crumble with one, but mine did and it works great. Even without the tool, it doesn't take much effort to clean it up.

I haven't experienced any of the coating issues some have had, but I've only had this press for a few weeks and have acquainted with it probably a dozen times already. So far so good.

The pressing action itself takes very little effort and feels melodious light and ergonomic.

Do yourself a favor and pick one up. You'll be glad you did. I know i am.
Worked incredible until it snapped in half
Was thrilled with this press, then it snapped in half about 3 months after we bought it. Made from some character of cheap metal material. Not worth it, buy a stainless steel one.
Gossamer Puree of Garlic = More Evenly Flavored Food
I am thrilled to use this press every pass! I do not push cloves through with the skin on and it is so easy someone with arthritis COULD do it! Knocking the skin off by banging the clove with the unchangeable side of my chefs knive against the cutting board is so easy, why wouldn't you?

More importantly, the quality of the garlic flavor in the formula is much greater than hand mincing! I made the mistake of buying the OXO press and am so glad that it broke (after only one year!) because buying the Zyliss was a vasty improvement.

Dealing with Garlic

I use garlic a lot in my cooking, and these are the two tools I've found to be most profitable for getting the garlic out of it's peel and into the pot:

1. Zyliss Jumbo Garlic Press. I just purchased my Zyliss and so far I love it. Here's why:

a. You can put the entire clove into the press without peeling it first!
b. It's big - I can get more than one clove into the press at a at intervals.
c. It comes with a little plastic cleaner which is terrific for cleaning out all the little holes.
d. It's sturdy.

If you start looking at Zyliss presses, I lead one to believe avoiding the Zyliss Susi 2 Garlic Press. From what I hear it does not include the plastic cleaner.

2. Oxo Good Grips Garlic Chopper. This is what I use to dice garlic. I be acquainted with, you can just use a knife. But I have found when I use a knife my fingers end up smelling like garlic and it's difficult to get tiny, uniform pieces. The Garlic Chopper is wonderful because:

a. It's lasted me a long time. I used to have the Garlic Genius from Williams Sonoma which cost more and broke after a squat time.
b. It has a niftly little scoop so that you can scrape all the little pieces out.
c. It goes into the dishwasher :)
d. It's easygoing to assemble and doesn't slip when you use it.
