Grater
I started using it the stage i received this, and it was great. I would have given it five stars but it didn't come with a plastic cover, other than that it grates very filamentous and is a breeze to use.
Bite It Up!
This one stays next to me in my sushi bar! Importance Zester that does the job and should last a long long time!
Microplane Grater
Notable grating surface. I use it for nutmeg mostly but it makes a good zester, too. Comes with plyable protective case.
Zesty zester
I needed a zester for some recipes and went with this specific Microplane based upon the reviews, and because it had a nice handle on it (scared of skinned hands). The grater is super-foxy and works with precision; the peel practically flakes off with little pressure. It gives very fine tang. I have small hands but the handle is very comfortable and the zester overall feels sturdy. The inward curves on the sides may seem odd and seem made to device goo, but I've found that the blade is easy to clean inside and out. I haven't tried this on cheese yet but I don't anticipate a problem. The zester comes with a thick soft blade shield so it can go into a utinsel drawer with no worries of damage or accidental scrapeage. Great goods!
Well significance $12
Important for zest, nutmeg and hard cheese like Parmesan. Not another "kitchen gadget", but a useful contraption,

Christmas Cumshaw
A hit with the Helpmate! She saw this somewhwer--I found it on Amazon--she got it for Christmas--Ahhhhhh
Almost there...
Had this image of Microplane for 5+ years - until the plastic broke & that was it. Upgraded to the professional series to avoid another breakage (always at the sinful time) - love these zesters!!! Also got the coarse grater & dumped my old box grater forever. Spend the addendum couple of bucks & get a professional series - you will love it forever.
Wonderful scullery tool
Bloody sharp grating surface. In grating a lemon for a lemon meringue pie, my first project with this tool, i was surprised by how definitively i was able to grate the fruit and just how much usable zest fell from the surface of the lemon. The thirst did not get stuck in the tool, as it usually does in my old grater. I've since used it on other fruits and cheeses for other recipes. This is certainly one of the most worthwhile tools i have added to my kitchen.
Suitable zester
I bought this conclusion I could use it for more than lemon/orange zest but it doesn't work so well on much else. I prefer a little more flexibility in kitchen tools. It's a grudging size, works well for zest but I don't recommend trying it to grate hard cheese or ginger. It's still valuable and love the pink color.
Almost the Fundamental Zesting Tool
I find this to be a excel tool for zesting than the traditional zester. I use less effort zesting with this Microplane to remove only the rind and not get to that white substance that is very bitter. And most of the zest collects underneath the tool or falls from below. A few minor raps and the most of the collected tang fall away. When I use the traditional zesting tool, I get quite a bit of the zest and essential oil on my hands.

This Microplane is moderately easy to wash and clean. But, after washing, hold the handle and shake out the water that collects in the treat. Then place the Microplane with the handle up after washing so the water dries out from the handle.

I see that there is a newer version of this cat's-paw with a shorter and wider rasp area. The tool also includes a small and large strip zester.

PROS: Removes the pungency with less effort and better control (without removing the bitter pith). Easily collects the ginger without it collecting on your hands.

CONS: The rasp and handle area is not totally sealed or removable to either restrain food to collect under the handle or to allow thorough cleaning.

how can i zest a lemon without using a zester?

i have a method that requires me to use lemon zest
the problem is i dont have a zester, nor do i want to go out and buy a zester
i have a grater, will that achieve the same effect?
and what is the difference?

How do you use a lemon zester?

I have one like this http://www.amazon.com/Trudeau-099873-Zester/dp/B000A38ANG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=nursing home-garden&qid=1229282458&sr=8-2 and it doesn't seem to work very well. Should I use the small side of a cheese grater?
