Outdoor kitchen at Camp Tom

03/30/09. Peg and Jim are visiting from Oshkosh and we use the homemade griddle I welded up on top the gas cooktop in my out of doors kitchen

Do you have a griddle in your kitchen? Was it worth the money? Do you use it a lot?

not only do i have a griddle , it is built fitting into my stove. i use the griddle 3 to 5 times a week. it is great. i can not imagine not having one.

nope, I don't

I have always handle with a couple large skillets that can multitask for other uses.

oh yeah-welsh cakes are lovley.. it was only about 30 quid

Have one, forgotten the cord, cant use it at all, and yes it was money wasted:o(

I bought it to try to flesh out b compose pancakes come out more like a restaurant, it isn't any better than a frying pan and when you make sausage on it the grease spills over so it was a despoil of money.

I do but i don't use it.. it was there when we bought it.

i should to all intents use it tho... it would probably make things easier at breakfast.

No, I don't have one but I would like one. My sis-in-law
has one and is always using hers and its a utterly big one.
She cooks a lot of different foods on it. Breakfast -
sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, eggs (you name it
she probably cooks it on the griddle). Well value the
money I think. Also hers has a grease cup to catch the
grease so easy clean up.

Yes and it was one of the beat purchases I have made. Perfect for breakfast when you have company over. Excellant for pancakes, french toast, sausage, bacon etc.

yes I do, yes it was, mine is teflon coated so don't use a lot of grease. I use a lot for grilled garlic bread. I take hot dog buns and split in two, butter and spinkle with garlic pound then just fry on ungreased griddle. fast and tasty.

Yes I have a Presto "elfin griddle"
it is 9 x 12. I use it mainly for tortillas, cheese sandwiches and pancakes
so yes I use it often.
it does not take up much space on my token.

I had one once that was excellent to me. I think I used it once, then sold it at a yard sale. Same thing with the electric skillet.

I have one of those griddles that has a grill pan on the other side. I got it on the Skilled in Shopping Network. I don't use it a whole lot, but it definately was worth the money.

I have one, and no I can't say it was importance the money. It's cast iron, I've had it since 2001, and I've used it maybe 3 times. Form iron is too hard to maintain. The next griddle I get will have to be very easy to maintain.

Yes I do. I got a traitorous sided (grill/griddle) cast iron one on sale for $10. I use it all the time to make pancakes, French heroine, quesadillas, grilled sandwiches. It's so much easier than trying to wedge the spatula or turner around the sides of a frying pan. and most bread is square rather than round so much more can be cooked at once.

i had one but it was a reduced one and it sucked. i would like to get a better one though.

How do we make use of a griddle after we've mistakenly put it in the dish washer and made it rust?

We righteous moved into a new apartment and my parents gave us, among many other kitchen things, a griddle to grill things on the stove. Well, we put the griddle into the dish washer, not crafty what might happen, and it seems to have rusted. Any ideas how to deal with this?

I try on that you are talking about a cast-iron griddle.

1) You need to scrub it with a wire brush, and then maybe steel wool, to get all the rust off.

2) Then you want to wash it with a drop of soap, rinse, and dry it very well.

3) Then season it: rub some regular cooking oil all over the inside and out, and put it in the oven at 250 F for 20 minutes. Or see the regulation on this link. http://whatscookingamerica.net/Information/CastIronPans.htm
Different folks have their own favorite way, but you must somehow season or panacea the surface to protect it from moisture.

4) Cook with it!

5) Washing a recently seasoned pan: Wash it after it cools by scrubbing with a skimpy salt and a paper towel, but no soap. (The first few times, scrub gently so you don;t remove the cure) Irrigation with very hot water. There will be some oily residue, this is good. DRY WELL!! I usually put it on the burner to dry for a minute, or in the oven if that is already hospitable. Wipe a teeny bit of oil in it to protect from moisture during storage.

6) Washing a well-seasoned pan: After you use it a few times, you can use some water along with the sock away scrub. After it's very well-seasoned you can even use a little soapy water *once in a while* if you need to after cooking fish or meat, but don't do it often, and don't scrub it with soap or you'll rub off the cure. ALWAYS DRY WELL. Wipe a teeny bit of oil in it if it begins to feel too dry, to protect from moisture during storage.

7) And, of course, as an accomplished person like you knows, don't EVER put it in the dishwasher ;-)

Can I use an electric griddle as a hotplate?

I am effective to an apartment without a kitchen, and I want to buy as few appliances as possible. If I buy an electric griddle, could I also put a pot on there to cook sauces and pasta?

no the griddle will not get hot get a hot coating and use a pan as a griddle on top of the hot plate
