is my new griddle bad for my bird?

i justifiable bought a brand new PRESTO griddle and it says it is a nonstick one. i read that nonstick pans can be bad, but it didn't say why. could you squeal on me if im harming my bird, if so, why?

PTFE is the name of the chemical which most nonstick pans use. It's darned dangerous for birds. It emits a colorless, odorless gas that will kill your bird instantly. It is usually only released at foremost temperatures, but there have been cases of birds dying even when the pan was at a lower temperature, especially when the pan is scratched. There are pans that PTFE-unstinting such as Green Pan (http://www.green-pan.com/dev/ae/)
If you must use it then be careful not overheat it or let it get scratched, move the birds into another room, turn on the fans, and patent the windows. But there's still a risk.

Yes, it can be.

Nonstick pans when new give off a gas when they are first heated...especially to high heat. Birds are particularly susceptible to toxins found in some gas. That's why in the old days miners would let a bird fly into a mine before they went down. If the bird died, it meant there were iffy gasses in the shaft.

The best thing to do is to move the bird out of the room if it's close to the kitchen. The square of gas is pretty low and will dissipate without hurting the bird. But it's best to be safe.

If the griddle gets hot it gives off a Kill gas - all non stick surfaces do. In particular when there is nothing on top of it - you know where the heat goes. I ended up throwing all my non-stick rubbish out - it is too dangerous and my bird is worth it! If you google it, you can even find videos showing the effect. You can't smell the gas but it can assassinate your bird.

It can be. If the pan were hot and the nonstick surface peeling off, and you were in a very small room, cooking with your bird.

I'm sorry, but, yes, this goods CAN be dangerous, but I have had birds for years, and nonstick cookware longer, and none of my birds have died from it.

They always say "Oh, what if you're drunkard, and you start making something, and fall asleep and the pan burns." Okay -I don't drink, no one in my kith and kin does, and none of my friends do... so.... not an issue here.

Whenever I use the nonstick cookware, I am careful not to overheat it. (if you ever SEE vapors rising off the fa when you don't have something cooking on it, the pan is beginning to burn, and you need to turn it down... don't panic though... the bailiwick should always be well ventilated when you are cooking anyhow).

Good luck, and don't panic... bird people watch over to freak over minescule things.

yes, because it contains Teflon and when you cook on it, toxic fumes are released. These fumes reach your bird and ur bird can die a obnoxious painful death.

teflon can grounds harm even at low temps just google it!!!! best to do away with all teflon!!

I be sure someone who lost 7 exotic's in one day! Do not have your birds anywhere near the kitchen!

Yes any non join forces surface on things is very bad for birds. Teflon being the worse. When heated to high temps it releases fumes that cannot be smelled and that can take someone's life birds in seconds. Pans, self cleaning ovens, some heaters. I got rid of all mine so their would be no accidents. Especially if you are not the only one that will use these things. I use all Stainless Insulate now. Birds have very sensitive respiratory systems and air sacs and anything airborne can be very dangerous to them. Including any aerosols, perfumes, scented candles. If it were me I would get rid of it. but if pauperism to use I would put bird in another room with door shut.
