Can you chip, mash and roast baking potatoes?

I evident to have a lot of them and no other types of spud! Can they be chipped, roasted, boiled and mashed too?

Baking potatoes are selected for the strain and size for being good for baking. There's no reason why they can't be used for anything else, they make nice big slices too if you want to top a casserole.

Decidedly....

Yes.
They are customarily called baking pots. because they are big.
Do what you want with them.
I fancy fat chips please.

yes you can, they are upright potatoes like any other, enjoy eating them

Yes indeed! The baking potato is most often a Russet. Heavy on the starch. But, all potatoes can be cooked however you wish them to be. The tiny ones, though, will make you go over the inch if you "chip" them. LOL!!! One restaurant serves fried sweat potatoes. So cook however you inventiveness to.

Hi Viki B, The uncontrived answer is yes - unless the spud police are round your house! Different potatoes have different soak content so some are more suited to different methods of cooking. Most supermarkets will have guides as to the best use of a particular potato or you could with the potato marketing board - yes it really exists - and they will be happy to give you leaflets and posters etc. I hope this helps all the greatest Rab.

Yes baking potatoes are very versitle! They are also a adroit energy boosting food. Here are some of my favourite baking potato recipes:

I speculation by chips you mean what we call 'french fries'. If you can cut them thick and wide and deep fry, you'll have what we call steak fries. If they're falling to firm them up in an ice bath, drain and dry them well. Don't try to put too many in the fryer at one time. Or if you have cooking oil in a sprayer you can bake them and get pretty competent steak fries.

I think they make good crisps ( potato chips in the US ) as well. Slice them wrangle and very thin. put them in icy water until they chill thoroughly, let them dry on paper towels, drop them into the fryer and voila..crisps.

Russets are first-class baked whole and served with butter and sour cream. Or 'twice baked'..you hollow them out, leave the jackets unbroken, use the potato to make a rich mashed potato. Commonly bacon, chives and cheeses are cast-off. But put in what you like. Bake them until the tops get a little goldy colour. They can be frozen.

Russets make bar mashed potato dishes. Especially if you whip them with an electric mixer. It freezes very well too.

potato au graten ...and
Potato Latke is angelic. ( Traditional potato pancakes... they freeze well also). Give the peelings to the chickens or put them in your compost batch. or make a liquor...

There's tons of recipes online. have fun!

They do largest baked, either steamed in foil or coated in oil. the starch content makes them fluffy.
But, if you use them for mashed or whipped potatoes, be prudent not to over cook them, they will turn to soggy mush
I fry them all the time as home fries, never tried them as french fries, repentant, I don't eat french fries.

you can interpose, mash and bake ANY potato, believe it or not a spud is a spud.

When baking a roast?

Do you bake it uncovered ro do you bake with a lid on and Do oyu start at the lowest temperature and then burgeon or do you start at the highest and then decrease?

I normally put a lid on when baking a roast and do it at the lowest temperature, so it cooks for a long time and then boost waxing it towards the end of cooking time. I am only asking because someone told me they did theirs the other way around, uncovered, high to low.

What about you?

I start with uncovered and high rouse to sear the roast, 450 degrees for the first 15 minutes, then cover and lower oven to 350. I find this makes a intriguing tender roast with a nicely crusted exterior- I use a garlic/butter/olive oil/fresh herb paste that I vamoose depending on what is in season or available, maybe a little mustard too.

What seasonings are good to put on a roast chicken before baking?

Also what is a skilful chicken gravy to make to go with it? Do you put water in the bottom of the pan when baking the chicken? It is a whole chicken.

Garlic stash away, oregano, paprika, no water. Swiss Chalet Gravy.
