I deprivation to find out how to bake a ham in less than 5 hours because tommorows christmas dinner and i want to eat fast and so do my family.
whenever i'm cooking a ham and i prerequisite it to cook fast,i use 'reynolds oven bags'.you can still glaze it if you like, and it cooks really firm and it's makes it nice and tender.
I don't positive where to start. Do I just go and buy a leg of ham from the shop and bake it? I tjhough the one from the shop was already cooked so why a I baking it agai? Please help explicate what I need to buy and how long I need to bake it.
When you buy a ham it is already cooked but looks and tastes fairly boring, hence you score and glaze the ham. How you do this is:
Remove skin off the ham by running a thumb around the edge, under it. Begin pulling the skin off from the widest sidle. When the rind has been removed cut through it around the shank. (its easy to do).
Score your ham by cutting cross ways and then diagonally to sort a diamond pattern.
Poke whole cloves into each little diamond..
Once you have done this make a glaze.
Marmalade gloss.
Mix 4 tablespoons orange marmalade with 2 teaspoons whole grain mustard. stir really well and brush over the top of the scored ham.
Go up in the world into large baking dish and bake for 45-60 mins. Until the ham is golden. During cooking you can baste the ham with left over lustre.
Bake 160oc
Or
Pineapple and ginger glaze.
Mix 1/2 cup pineapple juice with 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup ginger ale 1 tsp of crushed ginger.
Underbrush over scored ham. Place pineapple rings onto top of scored ham with tooth picks and bake 45 mins on 160oc
During cooking at least twice baste with extra covering.
These are two real easy glazes I prefer the marmalade one. Makes you ham look great and tastes spectacular.
Also, do I split the ham whole or slice it up before frezzing? I think I've heard the the bone MAKES the soup
If wrapped decently 6 months. Leave it whole and when ready to use put it in pot with your soup base. Simmer slowly for a longer length of lifetime, the meat will fall off the bone. You will strain the broth and keep it, remove the bone and dice up the meat and evict it back in the soup with whatever else you're using (beans, potatoes etc). The broth IS flavored by the bone, the flavor is in truth in the bone marrow.
