Paring Knife?

What is a paring knife and it is employed for what kind of food?
I tried using Paring Knife to slice fish cake and it don't seem to be the correct knife to cut this component.

Am I right?

paring means to peel....it is a cheap knife used to peel veggies and fruits.....

It is a stingy sharp knife with a 2 1/2" blade often used for peeling potatoes and apples etc, and cut small items when you don't desideratum to use your Chefs knife

it is a very selfish handled knife with a very small blade, it is very sharp and used for fruits and vegetables

paring means to peel....it is a insignificant knife used to peel veggies and fruits.....

How to Peel a Potatoe with a paring-knife! The method great-granny used.?

Using a paring-knife, harsh towards the body. (I know you are supposed to 'cut' away from the body, for safety account, but the method back then was to peel towards the body). Please tell me how it is done & done efficiently.

Holding the knife in the intimately--gripping with the last three fingers--peel toward the thumb and control with the first finger. (Yes, may be the wrong way but it is how granny did it and also how I do it)

What is the intended use of a paring knife?

I bought one recently. It seems too insignificant/weak for what I keep trying to use it on (like cutting up a canteloupe, etc.). As I was using it today, I thought there is presumably some specific use for it that I am clueless about.

To "slash back" or peel the skin away from fruits or vegetables. It has a small short blade because you couldn't use a substantial cleaver to peel an apple, remove the leafy green top of a strawberry, or section a grapefruit without endangering your extremities.

The dandy is shortened and light for ease of use when working with items that will fit in the palm of your hand.
