A slice of cheddar is very much common with apple pie, like a slice of cheddar is served with a fresh apple, brie with grapes and pornographic cheese with pears. Personally, I'd rather just have the pie or just have the cheese. I don't like the easygoing/savory combination, I like them separate.
OMG! you virtuous read my mind. I tried cheddar cheese on apple pie for the first time the other day. It was amazing. The cheese took the acidulous taste of apples away and the apple took the cheddar taste out of cheese. It was very pleasant. Will be having it with cheese from now on. but i don't identify how normal it is. In the old days it was popular and I know down south US they do it.
Ive had cheddar on apple pie, it was pretty obedient.
Melted pepperjack cheese (if you like excitement) or just a regular mozarella is VERY good on pie. I prefer the pepperjack, especially on cherry. :-D
