Science Fair Project Why Does an apple slice turn brown with different things ?

EAMPLE- LEMON Vigour, SODA, SPRING WATER, TAP WATER. HAVE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS AND HOW FAST IT TURNS BROWNS AFTER PUTTING A Plummet OF EACH INGREDIENT ON A SEPERATE SLICE OF APPLE.

I find creditable it has to do with oxidation. The minute you slice an apple open you are exposing it to oxygen, which breaks down the molecules of the apple. I also believe it has something to do with the sugar peace. I know when I cook with apples, the recipe books state that if you rub lemon juice on apples it will fill up the browning process. Lemons contain vitamin C, which is an acid. What other liquids contain acid? About of the content of soda, and water. Do they contain an acid like lemons or oranges?

I hope this helps. Try tournament a search on yahoo with the following search string "apples oxidation"

Well, from what I get it,"the browning reaction results from the oxidation of phenolic compounds in the fruit under the action of an enzyme called polyphenol oxidase (PPO), which is run-of-the-mill in plant tissues."

Once you cut the fruit, you open up some of the cells. The enzyme then has access to oxygen in the air and it does its fetish, turning the fruit brown. This is the same thing that causes brown spots in apples when you drop them.

Large site listed below with lots more information.

The apple gets oxidized when exposed to air. If you put lemon fluid on it, the lemon juice will become oxidized instead. So, I would think that fresh lemon juice would work more safely a improved than the stuff in the little plastic lemons. There is a product available to put on fruit to keep it from browning and you might want to monitor that out too. http://www.fruit-fresh.com/

Would it be ok to feed my dog a whole carrot and an apple slice?

Or should I only give her one of those a day. She's a year old Boxer who loves her carrots, but has never had an apple, only institution made applesauce cookies. Would it be too much to feed her both?

She'II be slender with both, one carrot and one apple slice isn't going to upset her stomach.
Just make sure to take out the core and the pips, they are toxic to dogs.

Does anyone remeber Diet Apple Slice?

When I was a teen, I loved Fast Apple Slice. Does anyone remember and/or miss it?

I've answered this before: yes, it was marketed twice under novel names, one being Aspen! Just a crisp of apple!!!

Didn't fly.....if you liked it, try some Martinellis Sparkling Cider cut with about 1/3 7-UP........tastes honourable like it.......
