I find creditable it has to do with oxidation. The minute you slice an apple open you are exposing it to oxygen, which breaks down the molecules of the apple. I also believe it has something to do with the sugar peace. I know when I cook with apples, the recipe books state that if you rub lemon juice on apples it will fill up the browning process. Lemons contain vitamin C, which is an acid. What other liquids contain acid? About of the content of soda, and water. Do they contain an acid like lemons or oranges?

The apple gets oxidized when exposed to air. If you put lemon fluid on it, the lemon juice will become oxidized instead. So, I would think that fresh lemon juice would work more safely a improved than the stuff in the little plastic lemons. There is a product available to put on fruit to keep it from browning and you might want to monitor that out too. http://www.fruit-fresh.com/
Would it be ok to feed my dog a whole carrot and an apple slice?
Or should I only give her one of those a day. She's a year old Boxer who loves her carrots, but has never had an apple, only institution made applesauce cookies. Would it be too much to feed her both?
She'II be slender with both, one carrot and one apple slice isn't going to upset her stomach.
Just make sure to take out the core and the pips, they are toxic to dogs.
